This article describes a psychological autopsy study into suicide investigating deaths in Sydney’s western suburbs. The study is uncontrolled & involves interviewing the families & significant others of people who have died by suicide. Some preliminary findings indicate the highest risk groups were individuals aged 20-29 and 30-39; mental illness was present in the majority of cases; & the majority of cases involved multiple motivations. The study is being conducted in conjunction with the district coroner’s office.
