The “Out of the Blues” demonstration project in Australia was funded under the National Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy to provide a service for young people at risk of suicide. This paper describes another component of the project – the design of a workshop format to educate staff from residential centres in Adelaide in the recognition & initial management of depressed and suicidal young people. The workshop was subsequently used with social workers, teachers, & volunteers in a range of settings. (3 refs.)
