Elderly suicide prevention programmes envisage intervention at primary, secondary, & tertiary levels. The targets for each intervention level are respectively: protective factors, the suicidal crisis, & survivors. While further studies on outcome are warranted, various intervention activities do appear to be needed. (64 refs.)
