This chapter outlines standard approaches to the therapeutic management of the adolescent suicide attempter & reviews the evidence for the efficacy of experimental treatments directed to reducing repetition rates. Based on existing data about the characteristics of adolescent suicide attempts, other potential treatment strategies are considered. There is little empirical evidence available as yet to inform treatment planning. Individual treatment with the most promise include cognitive therapy & a variaant, problem-solving therapy. Evaluation & the style of services for youth are also discussed. (40 refs.)
