This study examined a representative sample of 3,687 Slovenian high school students of whom 238 (137 females & 101 males) had attempted suicide. Statistical analysis indicated that attempters & nonattempters differed in levels of self-esteem, emotional reaction to family problems, running away from home, & substance abuse. The differences in the level of depression, frequency of suicide ideation, family suicide occurrence, smoking, & alcohol use were significant. (52 refs.)
