This paper addresses suicide among persons over the age of 60 in the United States beginning with a presentation of the epidemiology & related demographic information, including known risk factors for both attempted & completed suicide. Assessment issues & rational suicide are discussed next. The paper concludes with suggestions for intervention in order to reduce suicide ideation & improve the individual’s quality of life.
