89 child & adolescent psychiatric inpatients were examined to determine ways in which aggressive & nonaggressive patients differ & to discover factors associated with self- vs. other-directed aggression. It was found that accurate predictions could be made about which patients would engage in aggressive behaviour based on preadmission characteristics. However, the manner in which a patient was likely to aggress, i.e. toward others or self, was not as predictable. (27 refs.)
