This study was done to support the publication of guidelines for media reporting on suicide. Quantitative & qualitative aspects of suicide reporting in the Swiss print media were surveyed over 8 months. Results were presented at a national conference & written guidelines were sent to all newspaper editors. After the publication of the guidelines a second survey was done. The number of articles had increased over the 3 years between the surveys but the quality of reporting had clearly improved.
