This project studied youth suicide in Victoria, including perceived reasons for suicide among this age group. A consecutive series of 148 suicide victims was matched with 105 youths in a hospitalized group, & 101 in a non-hospitalized group. Subjects were divided into 2 broad age groups, 15-19 years & 20-24 years. Results indicate that the groups most at risk of suicide were the late adolescent & young adult males. Other findings are presented & nine recommendations are made for the prevention of youth suicide.
