This study examined the prevalence & demographics of domestic violence among patients in an university hospital emergency department. Of the 97 participants investigated, 57 were female. 3 of the 40 men & 22 of the 57 women had been victims of past physical violence. Alcohol use, suicidal ideation, family history, & psychiatric history were all strongly correlated with domestic violence. (13 refs) (SC)
