This presentation discussed a study which examined completed suicides in San Francisco among African Americans, Asians, Caucasians, Hispanics & Native Americans from 1987-1996. Caucasian men & women had the highest rates. Significant differences were found when ethnic groups were compared across age, gender & method, but no significant differences were found in the use of firearms. A framework relating cultural variables to predisposing client variables is suggested. (See #990223 for full text)
