In this presentation, Maris discussed 6 ways in which the suicidal career concept can make interventions more effective: 1) intervention needs to be specific to each individual; 2) understanding that people with suicidal careers have a lowered threshold for suicidal acting-out; 3) focusing on protective factors & health; 4) primary rather than tertiary interventions; 5) focusing on the entire human being, their community & their ecology; & 6) recognizing that suicide is not inevitable.
