This article reviews the incidence of inpatient suicide at a long-stay hospital in Brisbane, Australia. 3,080 admissions over a 5.5 year period were studied. 18 suicides were identified. Demographic variables associated with the victims are described including age, marital status, psychiatric diagnosis, previous attempts & admissions, methods of suicide, substance abuse, & other contributing factors.
