This study explored the treatment received by 43 Finnish suicide attempters with major depression before & after the index attempt. Results indicated that few suicide attempters with major depression received adequate treatment for depression before the suicide attempt & that, despite a well-known risk for suicide, the treatment situation is not necessarily any better after the attempt. Findings suggest the need for better assessment & treatment of major depression among suicide attempters.
