The current, annual, & lifetime prevalence of inhalant use among 475 youth on probation in a western American state was assessed. Inhalant users reported significantly less family support & cohesiveness & lower self-esteem, & significantly more lifetime thoughts of suicide & suicide attempts, neighbourhood gang activity, peer & parental substance abuse, intentions to engage in illegal behaviour, substance-related criminality & substance abuse than did nonusers.
