This presentation focused on suicidal behaviour in the elderly in different countries, the group which in many countries has the highest suicide rate. The question of whether there are special risk factors for suicide in the elderly was examined. It was concluded that the general determinants of suicide among the elderly are similar to those for younger adults, even though the specific psychiatric disorders & stressors differ. The need for research on factors which are age-specific was noted.
