Previous work on musical subgenres & suicide attitudes has neglected blues music. This presentation discussed some preliminary results from a study which explored the impact of being a blues fan on suicide acceptability. Blues fans were more accepting of suicide than non-blues fans with ethnicity-specific effects. However, a multivariate analysis determined that this effect is wholly indirect through associations between blues fanship & 2 other predictor variables: church attendance & education.
