This presentation discussed a survey of member countries of the International Association for Suicide Prevention. Representatives were sent a questionnaire about suicide, attempted suicide, euthanasia & physician-assisted suicide. 48 of 50 representative eventually responded. Rates were significantly lower in countries with religious sanctions against suicide. The effects of declines in influence of organized religion on suicide rates was examined using data from the Republic of Ireland.
