This session described how physicians & nurse practitioners report treating cases of depression & suicidality, about their referral patterns & the obstacles they see to effective treatment of older adult patients. Office-based primary care physicians in Illinois & a national sample of nurse practitioners were surveyed. Nurse practitioners were found to use more varied approaches than physicians. Data suggest that training must change to meet the needs of a rapidly growing older adult population.
