42 female adult patients who had been sexually abused by family members were studied. Participants were placed in 2 groups, those with self-mutilating behaviours & those without. They were evaluated for a history of physical & sexual trauma, suicide attempts, eatings habits, & self-mutilating behaviour. The relationship between self-mutilation & suicide attempts was statistically significant. Subjects with self-mutilating behaviours were more likely to have made multiple suicide attempts.
