This lecture discusses depression in children and debates the role of depression in childhood suicide rates. Maria Kovacs questions the morbidity factor of childhood depressive syndrome and describes current research on depression into adulthood. Topics include symptoms of depression and mental illness in children, developmental costs of untreated childhood depression, detection of early childhood illness, and social coping skills for youth. Intervention and treatment methods are also discussed.
