Suicide Assessment in the Primary Care Setting (IN: The Harvard Medical School Guide to Suicide Assessment and Intervention, edited by D G Jacobs)

The purpose of this chapter is to heighten physician awareness of general principles of suicide risk assessment, help them identify patients who might be at increased risk for suicide, & provide guidance about the evaluation & treatment of primary care patients in whom suicide risk is suspected. Areas of collaboration at the interface of primary care & psychiatry which may be an indispensable part of reducing the risk of suicide among populations at risk are also referred to.
