To help clinicians make empirically informed decisions regarding the risk of suicide in substance-abusing patients, this chapter reviews: 1) the prevalence of suicide among substance abusers; 2) the multifactorial relationship between substance abuse & suicide; 3) the assessment of risk factors for suicide among substance abusers; & 4) the treatment of suicidal substance abusers.
