This manuscript addresses the difficulty in identifying people involved in non-natural deaths including suicide. Based on numbers from Capetown, South Africa, the manuscript defines non natural death, compiles statistics from 1980 to 1995, and provides challenges and solutions in identifying those dead from non natural means where identity features have been compromised. Topics also include burial details for unclaimed/unidentified bodies and suggestions for improving identification methods.
