Nicotine is one of the most toxic of all poisons and acts with great rapidity. A lethal dose of nicotine in adult humans is estimated to be 30-60 mg. In this case, the patient recovered fully, after an uneventful hospital stay. Physicians and pharmacists should carefully instruct each patient in the appropriate use and handling of transdermal drug delivery systems.
