In this column, it is asked if it is true that males complete suicide more often & females attempt suicide more often in all age groups. The answer provided says that this is true, except in children, ages 5-14, where males both attempt & complete suicide more frequently. The reasons for this are not clear, but is has been proposed that childhood is more difficult for males. Female children are generally healthier, mature faster, & have an easier time in school than do male children. (2 refs.)
