In this column, a school counsellor asks about signs which indicate that she is helping a student “too much”. The answer notes that maintaining appropriate boundaries is a critical aspect of working with clients, especially those who are suicidal. A list of 11 symptoms of loosening boundaries is provided, & includes thing such as: feeling that you alone can heal the client; feeling that your treatment plan is the only right plan; & thinking that you are the only one keeping the youth alive.
