This review focuses on what Balk has called “a book of enormous scope”. Focussing on the entire field of suicide studies, “Assessment” is a comprehensive book designed to guide those in suicidology. Balk reviews this text chapter-by-chapter,giving the reader both criticisms and support of the presented philosophies. Also included in this review are biographies on each “Assessment” contributor, Balk’s personal views on suicide, and a brief overview of new changes in the suicidology field.
