A prospective autopsy study was undertaken at General Hospital in San Fernando, Trinidad to analyze 105 poisoning deaths that occurred in 1996-97. 99 of these deaths were suicides & 44.4% occurred in the 10-29 year age group. Agricultural poisons were the most common agents used in fatal poisonings. It is suggested that efforts to prevent suicide by poisoning may be more effective that treatment protocols. (13 refs.)
