Greg Miller points out a problem in the way adults dismiss teenagers’ problems as “going through a phase”. He quotes statistics from Massachusetts, where each year 24,000 teenagers attempt suicide. In the United States suicide is the third leading cuase of death for people aged 15 to 24. State surveys have consistently reported that, one in every 4 teenagers has seriously considered suicide, and 1 in 5 has actually made a plan.
