In this letter, the authors report on their survey of 230 seropositive women in New York City. Results indicated that 26% of the total group had attemped suicide before their HIV diagnosis; 19% had done so since. Women who attempted suicide after their diagnosis were younger, reported more disease symptoms, depression, loneliness & need for support. Findings highlight the previously unreported high risk of suicide attempts among seropositive women. Limitations of the study are discussed.
