A meta-analysis of 3 studies investigating smoking cessation & injury/death risks is provided. Lower (but not statistically significant at p <.05) relative risks of injury death & suicide were found in smoking cessation intervention groups. This modestly supports previous studies that suggest smoking may cause injury. Reasons why are suggested, including study biases or a beneficial effect from smoking cessation, especially given the fact that smoking impairs the senses and fitness. (41 refs.)
