Paykel looks at the training of health professionals on suicidal behavior in this paper. He suggests groups that need training: health professionals from psychiatrists to nurses & medical students, social workers & volunteers. The content of such training is discussed, including the epidemiology of suicide & understanding of its motivation. Paykel notes the Samaritans have an excellent training program. Finally, the implications of this training, and its effects on different groups are explored.
