Implications for Purchasing (IN: The Prevention of Suicide, edited by R Jenkins, S Griffiths et al)

By focusing on suicide as a target, Health of the Nation (HoN) has increased the UK’s awareness of suicide. 3 areas where progress is being made are: healthy alliances, health strategies & managerial responsibilities. The NHS must create alliances with groups/unions of people at higher risk for suicide. Better evaluation, intervention & monitoring of outcomes will help create healthy suicide prevention strategies. The introduction of mental health targets will help ensure action is taken.
