Epidemiology and Trends in Suicide in the UK (IN: The Prevention of Suicide, edited by R Jenkins, S Griffiths et al)

This chapter consists of two papers previously published in “Population Trends”. The first describes recent trends in suicide rates in England & Wales, & the methods used. Male suicide rates have been rising at a time when female rates are decreasing. The age distribution has also changed. The second paper examines trends in different factors known to be associated with suicide mortality. In particular, factors affecting the suicide rate of young men are examined. Further research is called for.
