Who Dies of What? A Comparative Analysis of Mortality Conditions in Developed Countries Around 1987

This article presents information on causes of death in 33 developed countries, including all of Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan & Israel. On the basis of data reported to the World Health Organization, it can be shown that suicide has been steadily increasing among both genders in developed countries since the early 1950s. The highest rates are reported in Hungary & the lowest rates are found in countries with a strong Catholic tradition, e.g. Spain. (11 refs.)
