Suicide and the Inner Voice is reviewed. Firestone elucidates the psychodynamic theory that underlies the Firestone Assessment of Self-Destructive Thoughts that he created. Its application to the understanding of suicidality is explained. Firestone’s theory is that suicidal behavior is prompted by negative “voices” that we carry in our psyches. Cognitive & psychoanalytic approaches to understanding suicide, as well as epidemiological/empirical data, is also explained in this book.
