This article reviews the available literature on reactions to family members surviving another member’s suicide. 3 factors determining the reactions of other people are investigated: cause of death, characteristics of the deceased & characteristics of the respondent. The perceptions that persons bereaved by suicide are viewed differently are reviewed. Methdological flaws & limitations of current research are noted. Tentative generalizations & suggestions for clinical practice are also made.
