This article discusses murder/suicides among the elderly, e.g., a husband kills his wife and then himself. Women in these couples were not usually willing victims. The highest rates of murder/suicide are in Florida. Often doctors fail to screen these people for depression, a problem further compounded by lack of insurance coverage. Differences in demographics of murder/suicide victims are described. The authors recommned a 20-question self-report for patients to take to diagnose depression.
