This session discussed the second phase of a study of social health among Aboriginal heads of household & of single mothers, Aboriginal & nonAboriginal, during 1988-89 with special emphasis given to suicide attempts. Of a total sample of 97, 2 in 5 nonAboriginal single mothers attempted suicide at least once compared to 1 in 4 Aboriginal single mothers. The differences between the 2 groups do not outweight the high incidence of attempted suicide & other destructive behaviours common to both.
