This presentation explored the current state of early detection & prediction of suicidal behaviour in adolescents. Based on 5 years of development work using a series of 17 cross-sectional studies on normal high school populations, the author described the development of a composite questionnaire which in preliminary studies showed high sensitivity & specificity. A particular focus for discussion was the prediction of events with low base rates & why classic probability theory is not helpful.
