The association between reported health problems & parasuicidal behaviours was investigated in 2 isolated Aboriginal communities in North Queensland. Cases of self-injury & suicidal behaviour during the period 1984-89 were studied & compared to control groups. Female cases & control groups reported a higher level of violent trauma & trauma that control males, though at a lower rate than parasuicide males. Male parasuicides were involved in more incidents of interpersonal violence.
