Facilitating Management of Suicidal Patients Between Hospitals and the Community – a Perspective From the Emergency Department (IN: Suicide Prevention… by the Public Health Association of Australia)

Changes within the Emergency Department as an interface between hospital & the community in the area of deliberate self-harm in Australia is discussed. An “enhanced” treatment which acknoweldged the importance of therapeutic arrangements for adolescent attemptors & the need to look at suicide attempts in context was tested. 547 patients were studied. Increased social work presence in Emergency Departments is recommended as a result. (5 refs.)
