Police suicide rates are compared cross-nationally. A life-stress model is described; the limited information available suggests that the model applies cross-nationally. Police suicide rates cannot be directly compared due to differing units of measurement, definitions of a police officer, databases used, years examined & size of police force. A widely disparate variability in rates was found. Ways of decreasing police suicide based on the life-stress model are discussed. (73 refs.)
