Health officials in 36 high-income & upper-middle-income countries with populations of 1,000,000+ provided complete data on firearm homicides, suicides, unintentional death & deaths of undetermined intent, as well as homicides & suicides for all methods combined. Overall firearm mortality rates were found to be 5-6 times higher in the Americas than in Europe or Oceania & 95 times higher than in Asia. More research to identify risk factors in various countries may help improve prevention efforts.
