Platelet Serotonin, Monoamine Oxidase Activity, and 3HParoxetine Binding Related to Impulsive Suicide Attempts and Borderline Personality Disorder

The relationship between suicidal behaviour & impulsiveness, & more generally borderline personality disorder, & platelet indices of central serotonergic function was studied. Platelet serotonergic measures were obtained from 144 patients after a current suicide attempt & at least one previous attempt. Findings support the hypotheses that serotonergic involvement in impulsive suicidal behaviour is mediated by the relationship between serotonergic function & impulsiveness as a personality trait.
