This study estimated the extent to which alcoholics have an elevated rate of death from accidental falls, motor vehicle accidents & other types of accidents. The study group included 1343 persons selected from alcoholics admitted to 4 California alcoholism treatment facilities during 1954-57. Follow-up was carried on through 1961. Results showed that the subjects in this study were 7 times more likely to die in a fatal accident, & 3.5 times more likely to commit suicide. (11 refs.)
