A literature review was conducted to explore the conceptual basis of limiting access to potential methods of suicide as a public health measure. Both physical availability & sociocultural acceptability are important determinants of choice. The authors state that opportunities exist in Australia for further reducing firearm suicides, addressing exhaust suicides by practical measures, & changing drug prescribing practices. The rise in suicides by hanging are problematic & need ecological study.
