Kondrichin (1995) noted that the Finno-Ugrian language group was quite scattered over Europe & was characterized by high suicide rates. To explore whether this link can be documented statistically, the suicide rates in 1990 for 30 European nations (with populations greater than 1 million) west of the Black Sea were obtained & the percentage of Finno-Ugrians. The Pearson correlation between suicide rates & the percentage of Finno-Ugrians was positive & statistically significant. (5 refs.)
