Stressful life events, their cognitive appraisals, desirability of these events, & psychological symptoms were assessed in 745 Chinese adolescents in Hong Kong. Slightly more bad life events were experienced by the participants, with these bad events having twice as much impact on their lives than the good. The most frequently reported bad event was poor exam results. Statistics of students reporting suicidal ideas as determined by the General Health Questionnaire are given. (59 refs.)
